A little about Sarah
Sarah Hayley Barrett is an audio producer and multimedia journalist covering Latin America, she's reported on everything from immigration, to politics, to post-war peace building, to lesbian reggaeton for outlets like NPR's Latino USA, WNYC and MarketPlace. She is currently a 2018 fellow with the International Reporting Project investigating changing laws concerning the LGBT community in Costa Rica and Guatemala.
In 2017, Sarah won a fellowship with the International Women's Media Foundation and travelled to Chocó, Colombia to report on reparations for the LGBT community following the 52 year-long civil war. Her reporting was featured in NewsDeeply, NPR's Latino USA, and Marketplace.
Sarah has developed and produced several new podcasts for various outlets including Wrongful Conviction, a podcast featuring the men and women who have been exonerated by The Innocence Project, In The Thick a politics podcast hosted by Maria Hinojosa, and The Bodcast, a podcast about body positivity with Bustle. She graduated with a Master's degree from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, where she founded the school's chapter of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalist's Association and helped push the conversation about LGBT reporting forward.
