The South Bronx is changing and tensions in the community are running high. Developers are coming into the neighborhood and new businesses, like FreshDirect, are relocating there as well, bringing with them money and new investment. But not everyone in the community is happy and some residents are boycotting the new businesses and the money that could come with it.
Local businesses are faced with a dilemma: Welcome the new investments — perhaps even make a business deal to help their bottom lines — or stand in solidarity with the community and boycott the newcomers.
It's a tough decision, one several South Bronx business owners struggled with and shared with WNYC.
